Severe thunderstorm watch for San Antonio, surrounding counties until 3 a.m.

Hail, gusty winds possible overnight Friday into Saturday

SAN ANTONIO8:55 p.m. UPDATE

Severe Thunderstorm Warning including San Antonio, New Braunfels, Seguin until 9:45 p.m. The NWS has also issued a Severe Thunderstrom Watch until 3 a.m. Saturday for a large portion of the KSAT viewing area.

NW Bexar County is also under an Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory until 11:45 p.m. The storm has produced rainfall rates of up to two inches in the Helotes and Grey Forest area. Low water crossing could flood over roads and small stream may fill for a short time.

8 p.m. UPDATE

The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Bexar County until 8:45 p.m. Areas impacted include San Antonio's West and Northwest sides, Leon Valley and Lackland AFB.

ORIGINAL FORECAST

People living in the San Antonio area can expect a muggy, warm evening Friday with only a slight chance of a storms. By the overnight hours, however, a cold front along with upper level energy should help to create a line of showers and storms.

Expect these storms to work west to east through the area, possibly affecting San Antonio sometime after midnight. With these storms, gusty winds will be the biggest threat.

Hail and heavy rain are a lesser threat, but still possible. The activity should begin to move east of the area by early Saturday morning, with some clearing by Saturday afternoon.

Another slight chance of rain returns to the forecast by Sunday.
