Crash happened at Bandera, Eckhert roads

SAN ANTONIO – Several people were injured Sunday afternoon in a crash involving 15 vehicles on the city's Northwest Side.

Leon Valley police said at around 2:30 p.m., a man hit a guardrail and then veered back into traffic and hit 14 cars at the intersection Bandera and Eckhert roads.

"I noticed his brake lights were not coming on and I was like,'OK,'" Lorrell Wright, a witness, said. "Then I noticed he was coming across the grassy median and that's when I was like, 'This is about to be bad.'"

Fire officials said one person was pulled from a car and taken to the hospital with serious injuries, but was expected to be OK. The rest suffered minor injuries.

The man who caused the crash was taken into custody and transported to University Hospital for treatment.

Police said he might have been under the influence of some substance.
