Close to 1,000 pounds of marijuana confiscated

EDINBURG, Texas – Border Patrol agents in the Rio Grande Valley have seized more than $720,000 worth of marijuana in several incidents.

The largest seizure happened Monday in La Rosita when agents confiscated nearly 230 pounds of marijuana.

Agents were notified of several people walking north from the Rio Grande carrying bundles. The agents approached the area, and the smugglers dropped the bundles and tried to run.

Authorities searched the area and discovered five bundles containing marijuana.

Additional marijuana seizures in Havana, Roma and Rio Grande City brought the total amount of marijuana confiscated over the weekend to close to 1,000 pounds.
