Police arrest man following manhunt on Southeast Side

David Cruz Herrera, 44, arrested Friday

SAN ANTONIO – A man was arrested Friday morning after leading San Antonio police and Bexar County sheriff's deputies on a chase throughout the city's Southeast Side.

David Cruz Herrera, 44, was taken into custody just after 7 a.m. by the Bexar County Sheriff's Office.

Rosanne Hughes, a spokeswoman with the Sheriff's Office, said the incident began around 5:30 a.m. when a deputy attempted to pull Herrera's vehicle over.

Deputies said Herrera took off driving southbound on Loop 410 before bailing on Loop 410 at East Houston Street, leaving his stolen vehicle in the median.

Deputies said they eventually found him a quarter of a mile away, hiding under a house in the 100 block of Creswell Drive.

The homeowner, Albert Jimenez, said he didn't hear what was going on under his home, but his neighbor saw Herrera hiding and called police.

Jimenez said he wasn't phased by the incident, but plans to board up the area under his house anyway.

The SAPD Eagle helicopter and their K-9 units also helped in finding Herrera. Police have not said what charges he will face.
