Teen accused of breaking into school, raiding snack machine

Gilbert Medina, 17, allegedly broke into McCollum High School

SAN ANTONIO – Gilbert Medina, 17, is accused of smashing through a window at McCollum High School and raiding a vending machine inside a teachers’ lounge, stealing snacks from it.

Police with the Harlandale Independent School District investigated the incident, which reportedly happened April 13. An arrest warrant affidavit stated that officers responded to the school and found a window in the teachers’ lounge had been shattered by a rock.

The affidavit stated that they also found a second rock inside a vending machine that also had broken glass.

Officers later obtained surveillance video from the school. The affidavit stated that one investigator recognized the teen who was caught on camera and identified him as Medina, a former McCollum student.

The video shows the same person carrying out a trash bag filled with snacks from the vending machine, the affidavit stated. The document did not mention that any other items were stolen.

Medina was arrested Thursday on charges of burglary of a building and burglary of a coin-operated machine.
