The case of a man who became infected with a flesh-eating bacteria during a recent trip to the Texas Gulf Coast has raised concerns across the state as the Fourth of July weekend approaches. Officials offered tips on vibrio and how can you avoid contracting the bacteria if you plan to visit a Texas beach this summer. According to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Service, vibrio infections have been reported in Texas for many years. || University Hospital has been verified as a Level 1 pediatric trauma center by the American College of Surgeons, according to a news release. The designation means staff are ready to take care of any injured child the moment they arrive at the hospital. || This summer, a San Antonio man has made it his mission to bring happiness to the less fortunate by donating pools to dozens of families. It all started when Todd Arredondo, the kind-hearted owner of an urban mining company, noticed a Facebook photo of children using the back of a pick-up truck as a swimming pool.

TUESDAY

Tim Duncan has reportedly exercised his player option for the 2016-17 season, sources tell The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski. Wojnarowski reports Duncan remains undecided about his future and will continue to contemplate whether to return for his 20th season with the Spurs. || Tejano superstar Selena Quintanilla has been nominated to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The announcement was made on Monday in Hollywood. Selena will be awarded the accolade posthumously. Also nominated for a star is South Texas native Eva Longoria. || The South Texas Blood & Tissue Center is sounding the alarm. It needs 2,000 blood donations by July 4 or it'll face a critical shortage as it heads into the slowest donation season of the year. To reach its goal, the center needs 400 donations for each of the next five days. It currently averages 225 daily donations.

MONDAY

The Supreme Court has struck down Texas' widely replicated regulation of abortion clinics in the court's biggest abortion case in nearly a quarter century. The justices voted 5-3 Monday in favor of Texas clinics that protested the regulations as a thinly veiled attempt to make it harder for women to get an abortion in the nation's second-most populous state. || Two days after Christmas in 2012 the lifeless body of Josiah Williams, 5, was found by his family in the South Side home he shared with his father, stepmother, step-grandmother and two siblings. On Monday during the punishment phase of her trial, San Antonio police Sgt. Jesse Salame testified that Williams told them she should have sought medical help for the child. || The San Antonio Zoo was gifted a retired elephant Monday from the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey. Nicole, a 40-year-old Asian elephant, will join the zoo's 56-year-old Asian elephant, Lucky.

“It is just so humbling”

On Saturday, one of the greatest WNBA players of all time received one of the greatest honors that a player can get: her number retired. Becky Hammon joined the WNBA in 1999 as a free agent and played for the New York Liberty until 2007. She was traded to the San Antonio Stars in 2007 and quickly won over fans.

Horror near Houston

Police near Houston say they were forced to shoot and kill a woman after she killed her two daughters. Investigators with Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office said Christy Sheats, 42, shot and killed her daughters, Taylor Sheats, 22, and Madison Sheats, 17. When officers arrived at the family’s home they said Christy Sheats was still holding a gun. Her daughters were lying in the street nearby.

“I want the death penalty"

Another suspect has been arrested in the shooting death of a convenience store clerk. Law enforcement officers took 18-year-old D'Anthony Carter into custody and he's now in the Bexar County Jail, charged with capital murder. Hours after the suspect’s arrest Sunday, the victim’s father said he hopes the teenagers charged in connection with his child's death get the death penalty.

Battle of a lifetime

A legendary coach appears to be in declining health. The family of former Tennessee women's basketball coach Pat Summitt says that the last few days have been difficult for the 64-year-old as her Alzheimer's disease progresses. They also said Summitt is surrounded by the people who mean the most to her.

Where is a cowboy when you need one?

It’s a sight you don’t see often — even if you live in Texas. A Houston man was driving east on Loop 610 around 10 p.m. Saturday when he looked out his car window and saw a rider-less horse galloping down the busy freeway. He posted the video to Facebook and it went viral — attracting viewers from as far as Australia, and more than 1,500 reactions.
