Carjacking suspect claims she was kidnapped, forced into crime, police say

Rochelle Hardiway arrested on 24th birthday

SAN ANTONIO – Rochelle Hardiway is facing charges in connection with a carjacking on San Antonio's North Side, and also is considered a suspect in several other robberies, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.

She was arrested Sunday, on her 24th birthday.

According to the affidavit, a 62-year-old woman was approached Saturday by another woman with a gun who demanded her car keys.

The woman with a gun then jumped into the victim's car along with two men and drove away.

The affidavit said that Hardiway called police the following day, telling them that she had been kidnapped and was forced to commit the carjacking.

However, police said she later gave a statement, detailing her involvement in that crime as well as other robberies.

Hardiway, so far, faces only a charge of aggravated robbery related to the carjacking.
