10 people displaced in townhome fire

2-alarm fire in 6100 block of Farragut Drive was reported around 3:30 a.m.

SAN ANTONIO – A two-alarm fire destroyed a townhome on the city's Northwest Side early Sunday morning.

When firefighters arrived at the townhome in the 6100 block of Farragut Drive near Callaghan Road around 3:30 a.m., flames were shooting from the back of the structure.

Fire officials said 25 units responded to the fire because crews had trouble accessing water.

Ten residents were displaced by the fire.

Toni Torres, a neighbor, said she feels back for one of the residents she knows well.

"I honestly cried," Torres said. "Chanelle has been struggling to get back upon her feet. She's a single mom with very young kids, and that's a hard life as it is."

Torres said she and some friends have begun organizing a benefit to help the three displaced families.

"Pretty much anything we can do to raise money for all three families," Torres said. "Because all three lost a lot of things."

Damage was estimated at $300,000.

No injuries were reported.
