Wine can trace its history as far back as 7000-5000 B.C. in what is now Georgia, and all the way back to the Neolithic period in what is now Iran.

Wine was actually discovered by accident when yeast was unintentionally introduced in grapes. The yeast fermented the grapes turning them into alcohol.

Monks perfected the art of winemaking in the Middle Ages.

One of the most famous champagnes in the world, Dom Perignon, is named after a monk who lived in the 1600s. Perignon experimented with different ways to make wine and his methods and techniques are still used today.

Red wine vs. white wine

Red wine is fermented with the skin of the grapes still intact, making it rich in antioxidants. Red wines also have anti-cancer properties.

White wine is processed without its skin, and may actually increase the risk of contracting cancer according to some studies.

Color

The color of wine can tell you the kind of climate or location from which the grapes came from.

Darker red wines and deep yellow white wines come from warm climates.

Lighter-colored wines come from cooler climates. These wines tend to taste lighter and less rich.
